A smashing weekend for the under 14 panel, their management and supporters as the boys scored a memorable triumph in their section of the National Feile Na Nog which was held down in Wicklow/Carlow. The team contested games with opponents from Wexford, Limerick and Wicklow before emerging as champions of their group with a nail biting extra time victory over Ilen Rovers from Cork. A terrific achievement for the squad and they were rightly celebrated at a function held in the club pavilion on Sunday evening. Congratulations to all concerned on an historic feat that will be long remembered in the annals of the club. Not so good news for the minor side last week as they were pipped by Lisnaskea in the Div 2 second play off, the Emmets now advancing to the league final against Ederney. Throughout this game it was Lisnaskea who looked just that little bit stronger all round, they opened up a five point lead heading into the second half. Tempo were to step up the intensity of their effort over the next twenty minutes and at one stage they had a sniff of full recovery as they cut the deficit to just two points but that was as good as it got for them, ‘Skea coming through with a three point winning margin.
Next up for the team is the opening round of the championship, they were scheduled to play Derrygonnelly yesterday evening (Tuesday).
The girls’ minor team also suffered a defeat as they went down to visiting St Patricks on Thursday evening.
Better return for the Erne Cup side who had a comfortable win over visiting Teemore on Sunday afternoon and the league points collected will ease their relegation concerns. As yet no firm detail on the next games in the senior league, much depending on the outcome of the county’s Qualifier clash with Antrim on Sunday.
