The only competitive game over the past week was the under 16 league tie with Belcoo which was played in midweek under the lights at Lissan. It was to be a solid victory for the side who now top their division and they are headed for the final which will have either Irvinestown or Belcoo as the opposition.Tempo were always in control of the Lissan encounter,at one stage they had moved out into a commanding lead of eight to nine points but allowed complacency to creep in and they were to be pegged back to a three point margin before a strong finish had them well clear again. There was to be no game on Sunday, opponents Devenish conceding a walk over.
The senior team will finally have a run of fixtures over the coming weeks as the long delayed and seriously disrupted league season grinds to a close. First up is a final Phase one fixture with St Patricks.
Both teams are consigned to the lower section of the league for Phase two but the points on offer are hugely important as the battle to avoid relegation to next season’s second division gets underway. The teams in the lower section over the four game run in are Maguiresbridge, St Patricks, Lisnaskea and the losers of the Devenish- Belcoo game.
The senior side had a challenge tie with Irvinestown at the latter’s ground on Sunday afternoon, a depleted Maguires selection losing out by a couple of points to an opposition who are in flying form at the moment as they prepare for their upcoming Ulster intermediate championship assignment.
