The gloom of a dank November afternoon was brightened up by the fine victory recorded by the juvenile side which captured the Division Three league title, beating a strong Belcoo side by two points in a high scoring decider at windswept Derrylin. And the wind was to play a critical role in shaping the game, Belcoo had the benefit of it in the opening half and were to reach the break eight points to the good. This was pushed out to eleven as the leaders snapped up a goal on the restart.
Tempo, though they would have the wind to aid them, clearly had a massive job of work on hand if they were to salvage this game, but salvage they did with a dramatic scoring burst that yielded up a three goal and six points second half tally. Still it had been a close run thing.
The win will add extra lustre to Saturday’s youth presentation evening which will be held in the Community Centre starting at 5-00. The evening is to celebrate the enormous amount of work that has been put in by so many volunteers in promoting underage football over the past ten months and of course to celebrate in particular the various successes which have been achieved.
The senior side scored a vital league victory over St Patricks and the two league points collected almost certainly ensures that the side will be playing first division football next season. Two games still to be played, against Lisnaskea and Maguiresbridge and a point from that will definitely clinch safety.
The side made a robust start against the Donagh opposition and pressed out into an early lead. They were never to be in arrears at any stage thereafter though it was not until a few minutes from time that the goal scored put the result beyond all doubt. In any case the end of a long and frustrating league campaign will end with the satisfaction of staying in the top flight.
The Lotto jackpot for the weekend of Saturday November 14th was not won the numbers drawn being 6 11 16 and 26; Winners of the two £25 prizes were Aoife Cunningham and Michael Owens and the jackpot for next Saturday stands at a very enticing £5 900.
