Club Notes 03.10.16

The senior side in preparation for next weekend’s relegation fixture with Maguiresbridge played St Patricks in a home challenge game last Sunday morning.

This was to be good workout for the side against a Donagh squad who will be contesting the second division league decider on Sunday, they play Kinawley.

Tempo were short a few of what could be termed full strength selection and after a sluggish enough opening half, they reached the interval a goal in arrears. Matters were to improve after the changeover and a couple of goals around the threequarter mark, these scored within the space of a few minutes gave the team a lead that was sufficient to carve out an encouraging victory.

A sound enough team performance overall and if this is replicated then there is every reason to anticipate a win come Sunday and this would clear the first hurdle in the bid to escape the relegation trapdoor.

A win over the ‘Bridge would then see the side head into a final make or break tie with the losers of the Belcoo- Devenish clash.

The juvenile side travelled to Irvinestown on Sunday morning for a delayed league tussle with the home side and they needed a win to ensure that they would remain in contention for a place in the league decider.

But they were to turn in a much below par display and they were heavily beaten by a side whom they had run to just two points margin a few weeks back in the championship. The game as a contest was over by the interval as Irvinestown steamrollered aside the Maguires challenge and overall this was a very disappointing finale to the season for the under 16 panel.
